Realpolitiks II Deluxe Edition

I spent about 40 hours in Realpolitiks II and found a surprisingly playable grand-strategy lite that doesn't demand a PhD in spreadsheets. You pick a contemporary country, then manage military units, trade deals, and diplomatic relations in real-time (with pause). The UI is functional but dated, and the AI won't outthink you on higher difficulties, but the core loop of territorial expansion, espionage, and alliance-juggling works. It's janky compared to Victoria or Hearts of Iron, but the low floor for entry means someone new to the genre can actually finish a game instead of abandoning it at turn 80. The Deluxe Edition includes some cosmetic additions, but the base game's bones are solid. You'll notice performance hiccups in late-game, and the campaign missions lack the narrative weight of dedicated titles. Still, if you want to roleplay as a minor nation that punches above its weight through shrewd decisions, Realpolitiks II delivers without the 200-hour time sink.
