Alan Wake Collector's Edition

I approached Alan Wake expecting a horror game, but what I found was something closer to a tense action-adventure with psychological thriller bones. You play as the titular author trying to survive encounters with shadow-possessed townspeople using light as your primary weapon - a mechanic that feels genuinely fresh even twelve years later. Flashlight first, then gunfire works well and forces you to manage resources rather than spray bullets. The story is where Remedy's strengths show: the writing is grounded and earnest, the mystery unfolds compellingly, and the town of Bright Falls feels lived-in. The combat can feel repetitive in stretches, and the pacing dips occasionally, but the core loop of unraveling Alan's deteriorating mental state while battling a Dark Presence is engaging enough to carry you through to the end.
