If the base game left you hungry for more maps and heroes, these four packs fix exactly that problem - but they can't paper over a multiplayer shooter that was always thin on solo value.

I went into the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass already knowing the base game's reputation: gorgeous, fun in short bursts, and criminally light on content at launch. The Season Pass was EA's answer to that criticism, and after spending time across all four expansions - Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star, and Rogue One: Scarif - my verdict is that it genuinely does bulk the game up, even if the community's core complaint about content being held back was probably fair. Across the four packs you get sixteen additional multiplayer maps, four new game modes, over twenty new weapons and Star Cards, and eight heroes and villains added to the roster. The new characters include Lando, Chewbacca, Bossk, Dengar, Greedo, Nien Nunb, Jyn Erso, and Orson Krennic. The hero variety sounds impressive on paper, but in practice most of them share the same underlying Han Solo-style shooter framework, which takes some of the shine off. The Bespin and Outer Rim packs hold up best - the Cloud City setting gives Bespin a distinct visual personality, and Outer Rim's tight industrial corridors push the shooting into more interesting territory than the base game's wide-open battlefields. Death Star was the most anticipated and also the most divisive: the multi-step Battle Station mode is clever in concept, but some of the Blast maps feel rushed, and the whole thing leans heavily toward the Imperial side. Rogue One: Scarif looks stunning and fits the film's visual mood, but the maps blur together after a few sessions. The mode-per-pack structure is a double-edged sword. Each expansion introduces something new - Extraction, Turning Point, Battle Station, and Infiltration all give the gameplay a fresh angle for a while. But those modes also fragmented the player pool at a time when the base game's servers were already thinning out. If you were playing at launch or shortly after, that fragmentation stung. Playing today, with all content unlocked and the community consolidated, that issue matters much less. One thing nobody disputes: the production quality is consistently high. The maps look exactly like you want Star Wars locations to look. The audio holds up. The shooting feels as clean as it always did in Battlefront's DICE-built engine. What the Season Pass cannot fix is the absence of meaningful single-player content - every one of these four packs is online multiplayer only. If the base game's lack of offline depth bothered you, none of this changes that equation. For anyone picking up the complete package today, the Season Pass transforms Battlefront from a visually impressive but content-sparse shooter into something that can genuinely hold your attention for dozens of hours - as long as you have people to play against. If you were on the fence about whether the base game was worth the time investment, the expanded map and hero roster tips the scales toward yes, with the caveat that Bespin and Outer Rim do most of the heavy lifting. Worth it for dedicated Battlefront fans who want more maps and heroes, but solo players will find zero new reasons to return.
