BATTLETECH Heavy Metal
A mech-focused expansion that adds eight 'Mechs and a short flashpoint campaign, but struggles to justify its existence alongside the base game's superior campaign depth.
Veredicto de GamerScout
A solid mech roster expansion for existing players, but a thin campaign that doesn't justify a standalone purchase.

I picked up Heavy Metal expecting a meaningful expansion to Harebrained Schemes' BATTLETECH, and what I got was a roster refresh with a side order of missed potential. The eight new 'Mechs (seven returning favorites plus one exclusive) are mechanically sound and offer genuine build variety for multiplayer skirmishes, but the flashpoint campaign is a brief, self-contained mission chain that doesn't scratch the same strategic itch as the base game's branching storyline. If you're already invested in BATTLETECH's mercenary sandbox and want fresh tonnage for your lance, the mech roster alone justifies a look. If you're hoping for a full campaign experience, you'll finish the flashpoint in a few hours and be wondering if you should've waited for a sale. The mixed Steam reviews tell the story: longtime players appreciate the mechanical additions, but the package feels thin compared to what the base game offers. Multiplayer pilots will get more mileage out of the new 'Mechs, but the core campaign value proposition isn't strong. This is a solid tactical add-on for an existing playerbase, not a reason to jump in if you're on the fence about BATTLETECH itself.
