If you follow the peloton closer than your own sleep schedule, PCM26's biggest planning overhaul in years is genuinely compelling. Everyone else should know exactly what they're signing up for.

I'll be straight with you: cycling management sims occupy a lonely shelf, and Cyanide Studio has basically owned it without competition for over two decades. PCM26, released June 15, 2026, is the series doing something it doesn't always bother to do: actually changing things that matter. The headline addition is a completely redesigned season planning system. You now assign every rider to one of three hierarchy tiers (Main Leaders, Secondary Leaders, Domestiques) right from the start of the season, and each race on the calendar carries one of four priority levels, pushing you to commit your strongest assets to the moments that actually count. It sounds administrative on paper, but in practice it forces real decisions: do you burn your GC contender at Paris-Nice to build fitness, or protect him for the Tour? There are two main modes worth knowing. Career mode puts you in the sports director's chair, handling recruitment, sponsorships, training schedules, and live race tactics across a full licensed calendar that includes the Tour de France, La Vuelta, Paris-Roubaix, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, among others. Pro Cyclist mode is the other angle: you either create a custom rider from scratch or take control of an actual current professional, something the series hasn't offered before. Real names like Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Pogacar are present, and two new rider attributes (Tour Focus and Classics Focus, rated A to E) now shape how each cyclist performs across different race types, which adds a layer of genuine squad-building depth. The redesigned day form system also means rider performance fluctuates more naturally week to week, reducing the flat, predictable simulation outputs that have frustrated the community for years. The mixed Steam reception (sitting around 64% positive overall at launch) tells you something. The planning overhaul, the series' biggest selling point this year, is also its roughest edge. Some veteran players find it cluttered rather than empowering, and the game actually launched eleven days late after a critical bug in the new planning system was caught in beta. Community mod support via Steam Workshop was also delayed, which matters a lot here since a significant portion of the player base runs the game almost entirely through community-built databases like WorldDB. Strip those out and the base game feels thinner. On top of that, critics who compare it directly to PCM25 note that beyond the planning tools and rider attribute additions, many of the underlying interface problems from prior entries remain unsolved. What PCM26 does genuinely well is the in-race simulation layer. Detailed Simulation mode, which runs the full 3D race engine without the visual display to produce fast and consistent results, is a real improvement over the previous approach of skipping races and getting nonsense outcomes. Race AI energy management has also been reworked, which feeds into more believable in-race behavior from the peloton. For players who like to personally direct races and lean on the AI to handle the training logistics, the experience is noticeably tighter than it was in recent editions. The problem is the in-race model still doesn't look the part: visually, the game has barely moved in years, and the rider models don't resemble the real-world athletes whose names they carry. Who should buy this? Dedicated cycling fans and returning PCM players who want meaningfully better simulation depth will find it worthwhile. Complete newcomers to the series actually have a reasonable case for starting here, since the planning tools, rough as they are, do make the season structure more readable than before. Casual sports game fans expecting something in the neighborhood of Football Manager's polish should recalibrate expectations. This is a niche product built for people who know what a domestique does and already have an opinion about the WorldDB mod. Alex, Scout Team

Built for dedicated cycling fans and PCM veterans; newcomers can start here, but casual sports game players will likely bounce off the complexity.
