I went in expecting a dated relic, but Imperium Galactica's core loop of colonizing planets, researching tech trees, and managing alien diplomacy during systemic decline actually holds up. You juggle economic pressure, military threat, and internal rebellion across dozens of worlds. The late-game feels genuinely tense when you're defending the core Empire against multiple simultaneous threats. Where it stumbles: the UI is clunky, the tutorial skips over critical economy mechanics, and new players will spend the first few hours confused about trade routes and tax policy. If you approach this as a systems-heavy experience rather than a polished blockbuster, the depth rewards patience. The AI plays competently, and the modding community keeps the game alive. Best suited for players who cut their teeth on older Paradox titles or MOO2 and want something with genuine challenge, not hand-holding.
