If your tolerance for lewd anime absurdity is high and your expectations for shooter depth are low, this on-rails pheromone blaster will keep you grinning for a playthrough or two.

I'll be straight with you: Gal Gun 2 is exactly the game it looks like, and whether that's a compliment or a warning depends entirely on you. It's a first-person on-rails shooter built around one joke stretched across a school campus, and Inti Creates commits to that joke with admirable sincerity. You get 20 in-game days to clear a demon infestation, guided by a corporate angel named Risu, armed with a Pheromone Shot and the Demon Sweeper vacuum. That vacuum is the mechanical heart of the thing: you use it to suck up mini-demons crawling on possessed girls, and once upgraded it enters Hyper Mode, which... well, the name Striphoria should tell you all you need to know about where things go from there. The mission variety is wider than you might expect. There are five distinct mission types: standard attack runs where you move between pre-set positions fending off lovestruck schoolgirls, defend missions protecting NPCs from demon swarms, item-hunt stages, Doki-Doki close-up encounters where you orbit a girl and shoot demons off her body, and boss fights against the returning antagonist Kurona. Each day gives you roughly three time slots to fill, and which missions you prioritize across the 20-day stretch determines which of the five endings you reach. It is a light scheduling loop, nothing close to a full sim, but it does give the game more structure than a simple arcade run. The streak mechanic, where consecutive Ecstasy Shots without taking damage build a multiplier, adds a small but satisfying rhythm to the shooting sections. The Eye-Heart mechanic, where you hold eye contact with a zoomed target until her whole body becomes a one-shot weak point, gives you a crowd-clear option that feels genuinely earned in heavier waves. The honest criticisms are real though. The core shooting loop gets repetitive well before the credits roll, and the audio design suffers for it: the same voice lines cycle so often that most players will be reaching for the volume slider by hour three. Critical press largely called it thin on substance once the novelty fades, and that tracks. This is not a game with hidden mechanical depth waiting to reward mastery. The Rendezvous side mode, where you call up girls whose numbers you have earned through missions, offers some character-based fanservice and a light affection-building loop, but the costume selection is limited without DLC, and it never quite reaches the interactivity of comparable titles in the genre. Mouse and keyboard input actually works well here, giving faster aim than a controller, which is a minor but welcome PC-specific advantage. Where Gal Gun 2 wins is tone and self-awareness. The writing is comedic and goofy rather than mean-spirited, the characters in the main story have actual arcs (Nanako and Chiru both have side stories worth following), and the anime visuals are clean and expressive. Steam players have landed at 84% positive across a substantial review count, which is a fair summary: fans of the series and the genre are happy, everyone else probably checked out after the demo. If you have played Gal Gun Double Peace already, the improvements here are real but incremental. If this is your entry point to the series, the setup is fresher and you will get more out of the novelty. Alex, Scout Team
