Donkey Kong Country™ Returns HD

I went in expecting a straight port, but this HD version of Returns feels genuinely refreshed. The mine-cart levels, barrel cannons, and hand-drawn aesthetic that defined the original Wii game translate beautifully to higher resolution without losing that chunky, personality-filled art style. Level design is tight: hard-as-nails difficulty spikes exist, but the checkpoint system is fair enough that frustration doesn't kill the momentum. The core platforming is rock solid if occasionally reliant on trial-and-error to learn enemy patterns. If you skipped the original, this is the definitive way to play it. If you already beat Returns on Wii, the HD coat of paint alone might not justify a replay unless you're the type who runs through these games multiple times anyway.
