Rocksteady traded the Arkham playbook for a live-service looter-shooter, and the results are exactly as divisive as that sentence sounds. Worth knowing before you click buy.

My first few hours with this game were genuinely enjoyable in a way I did not expect given the noise surrounding its launch. Zipping across Metropolis as four of DC's most expendable criminals, guns blazing, grenades flying, and the city's skyscrapers serving as vertical jungle gyms - there is a kinetic energy here that holds up on its own terms. Harley Quinn swings with Batman's grapple gun and deploys a combat drone, Deadshot runs on Gizmo's jetpack, Captain Boomerang exploits a speed force gauntlet for rapid teleportation, and King Shark just hits things very hard. The traversal differences between the four are the most distinct thing about them, because when it comes to gunplay, the characters share a common foundation - learn one and you largely know all of them. That shared foundation is both the game's practical strength and its creative ceiling. Combat is frenetic and rewards players who stay airborne, chain traversal moves into shots, manage shields by firing at enemy feet, and time their Suicide Strikes for big area damage. At its best, the moment-to-moment action hums. The loot system layers on random stats, rarities, set bonuses, and character-specific weapon restrictions - there is genuine build tinkering available if you pursue it. Where it collapses is mission design. Activity after activity resolves to go here, kill things, defend the point, repeat. Certain missions lock your damage type to only afflictions, only critical hits, or only grenades, which sounds like variety but plays out as friction. The boss fights against corrupted Justice League members, which should be the marquee moments, land as the weakest beats mechanically and, for fans of the Arkham universe, as the most uncomfortable ones narratively. The writing and voice performances are a genuine bright spot. The banter between the Squad is sharp and the cast commits fully, including a notably strong final performance from the late Kevin Conroy as Batman. The cutscenes are polished and emotionally effective in ways the gameplay loop fails to match. Playing in co-op smooths over a lot of the friction - four players can specialize and cover the enemy type restrictions that solo play makes annoying - and the chaotic energy of the premise suits noisy group sessions well. Solo players get through the campaign but the endgame loop was never designed with them as the primary audience. The bigger context is impossible to ignore. This was Rocksteady's first game after the Arkham trilogy, built around a live-service model that has since been wound down. Post-launch seasons added content, but active development wrapped in early 2025. You are buying a closed live-service game, not a growing one, which changes the value calculation. The endgame loop that was always thin now has a fixed ceiling. What remains is a roughly 15-to-20 hour campaign with solid traversal, entertaining characters, repetitive combat encounters, and a narrative that divides Arkham fans right down the middle. If you want a breezy co-op shooter with a DC skin and are not carrying Arkham expectations into it, there is fun to be had here. If you are hoping for the depth of mission design or the mechanical invention Rocksteady built its name on, this is a different animal entirely and not a particularly deep one. Alex, Scout Team

Veredicto de GamerScout

Best for co-op groups who want a breezy DC shooter and can forgive repetitive missions and a live-service model that has already closed.
