Two hours of cheerful pixel platforming with a rescue-your-sister hook - lean on expectation management and this one punches at its price point.

My first impression of Shiro was that Xitilon knows exactly what it is making, and it is not pretending otherwise. You drop into a short, side-scrolling action platformer with pixel art that genuinely has personality, a breezy anime-flavored setup, and enough forward momentum to keep you moving without ever taxing your brain. Twin sisters Holo and Shiro are adventurers by trade. When the evil witch Satella kidnaps Shiro and hauls her off to a gloomy cave system, you take control of Holo and start running, jumping, and fighting your way through four distinct zones - a forest, an ancient temple, a mushroom cave, and a red cave system - across more than 25 linear levels. The game opens with a neat airship sequence where both sisters are playable while fending off attackers, and it is the most inventive the design gets. Once you hit the ground for good, the structure settles into a reliable loop of combat, platforming, and the occasional mini-game. There are kanji-based launcher pads scattered through levels that function loosely like the barrel cannons from old Donkey Kong games - satisfying when they click, genuinely frustrating when the trajectory feels unpredictable, which happens more than it should. Checkpoints are very generous, so death rarely stings, though that same generosity means you never feel pressed to actually master the mechanics. The single boss encounter is creative in concept - you destroy targets around the enemy rather than attacking directly - but landing it as the only boss in the whole game left critics underwhelmed, and fairly so. Where Shiro earns its goodwill is in presentation. The pixel art shifts mood convincingly across each zone, and the atmospheric soundtrack swaps to match each environment, giving locations a sense of identity that the thin story cannot quite provide on its own. The narrative is deliberately simple - Holo is off to get her sister back, full stop - and the connective tissue between levels is sparse enough that you may never be sure exactly why you are visiting each location. For a game this short, that is a minor annoyance rather than a deal-breaker. Runtime sits around two hours at a relaxed pace, with achievements that are mostly collected naturally through normal play. Releasing caged birds scattered through levels is the most involved collectible hunt on offer. Replay value is close to zero once the credits roll, so treat this as a single playthrough item. The Steam community sits at 81 percent positive across a solid review count, which feels accurate - this is a game people finish without regrets, not one they return to. If you are the type who needs 30-plus hours of content, complex combat systems, or a story with actual narrative weight, look elsewhere. But if you want a low-friction, visually pleasant afternoon platformer with a coherent identity and no padding, Shiro does that one thing well enough to justify the ask. Alex, Scout Team

Best for players who want a breezy, no-fuss pixel platformer for an afternoon and have zero interest in replay value.
