I spent enough time with Afrika Korps to respect what it does: this is a hex-based operational-level sim of the 1941-42 Libya campaign, and it doesn't apologize for being niche. You command Rommel's Axis forces pushing toward the Suez Canal or the 8th Army's Desert Rats holding the line. The core loop is solid - unit positioning matters, supply lines constrain your options, terrain forces tactical thinking. Two-player modes (local split-screen and remote co-op) work without fuss. The catch is presentation. The UI is sparse to the point of hostile; tooltips are minimal, and if you're not already familiar with WW2 unit organization, the learning curve bites hard. The AI plays competently but doesn't exploit your mistakes like a human opponent would. For players who thrive on spreadsheets and hexmaps, this is exactly the kind of low-frills game worth your time. Everyone else should expect to read the manual first.
