I went in expecting a modern bullet-hell pastiche, but Rigid Force Redux is actually a straight-up vertical shmup that commits to the bit. You're piloting a ship through dense waves of geometric enemies, dodging laser spreads and collecting power-ups that genuinely change how you approach each wave. It's all arcade, all the time: no story, no tutorials beyond button mapping, just the core loop of weaving through fire and scoring points. The visual design leans hard into that early-80s aesthetic with neon vectors and clean hitboxes you can actually see. The catch is that Rigid Force Redux doesn't innovate much. If you've burned through Galaga clones or spent time with modern shmups like Touhou, this lands as competent but unremarkable. It's built for emulator nostalgics and players who want their arcade fix without narrative baggage. Solid execution, zero surprises.
