Iceborne doubles Monster Hunter World's content with a frozen new continent, dozens of new monsters, and reworked movesets for all 14 weapon types. If you liked World, this is the obvious next step.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a full-scale expansion to Monster Hunter World, not a light content drop. It adds an entirely new region called Hoarfrost Reach, a sprawling icy landmass that serves as the hub for a new story campaign roughly as long as the base game itself. You need to have cleared the main story first, so this is not a standalone purchase, but if you have that cleared save, Iceborne picks up immediately and keeps the momentum going. The biggest change in terms of feel is the Clutch Claw, a new grappling mechanic that lets you latch onto monsters mid-hunt to redirect their movement, wound specific parts, or fling them into walls. It rewires how you approach every fight and adds a layer of positioning decisions that the base game lacked. Every one of the 14 weapon types got new moves and combos built around this mechanic, so even weapons you had mastered start to feel fresh again. Long-time hunters will want to relearn their mains, which is either exciting or annoying depending on how you feel about muscle memory. The monster roster is where Iceborne really earns its price. You get a large slate of brand new creatures, plus returning fan favourites from older Monster Hunter titles making their World-engine debut with updated animations and move sets. The flagship monster, Velkhana, is a genuinely memorable fight with an ice-control kit that punishes predictable play hard. Beyond the main campaign, the Master Rank difficulty tier replaces High Rank as the endgame loop, and the gear grind gets significantly deeper, which is the whole point for players who bounced off World's endgame feeling like they had run out of reasons to hunt. On the rougher side, the Clutch Claw becomes almost mandatory in Master Rank because of how monster toughness scales, which can feel like the game forcing a particular style rather than expanding your options. Solo players will hit walls more often here than in base World, especially against the Guiding Lands endgame zone, which is clearly balanced with a group in mind. The story itself is serviceable but nobody is playing this for the cutscenes. Co-op remains the best way to experience it, and if you have a regular group or can find one online, the value proposition is hard to argue with. Iceborne lands for action players who already have a foothold in World and want more of it, harder. It rewards patience, gear research, and willingness to experiment with new mechanics. Casual hunters who bounced off the later parts of the base game will likely struggle here, but anyone who found themselves watching weapon tutorial videos at 1am absolutely knows who they are and what they need to do.
