I spent a few hours with When In Rome expecting something like a Paradox title, but this is decidedly smaller in ambition. You're Flavius, a retired warrior settling into civilian life, and the core loop is managing resources, hiring workers, and gradually expanding your household operations. The simulation side is straightforward: plant crops, trade goods, complete tasks for NPCs. There's no deep economy or political intrigue to optimize, it's more a casual dailies game wrapped in a Roman skin. The interface feels dated by modern standards, and the pacing assumes you're content with incremental progress. It's not broken, just thin. If you're looking for strategic depth or a competitive challenge, look elsewhere. But if you want a low-stakes management sim to idle through on a quiet afternoon, it does the job without pretense. No frills, no story payoff, just Rome-flavored busywork.
