I've spent enough time in Paradox grand-strategy to know when a game respects player agency versus railroad you toward one correct answer. Tropico 6 does the former. Whether you're a feared dictator extorting your people or a peace-loving statesman, the economy and politics shift to match your decisions. You'll manage agriculture, tourism, military buildup, and faction loyalty while keeping a careful eye on treasury flow and election outcomes. The four-era progression (colonial through modern) feels like genuine progression rather than cosmetic change. The co-op and PvP modes add replay value if you've got friends, though the single-player campaign is where the mechanical depth shines. AI quality is serviceable, not Crusader Kings-level, but it responds to your strategies rather than ignoring them. Building management has some depth, but don't expect the granularity of Cities: Skylines. If you want to roleplay as a ruthless strongman or idealistic reformer while managing a functional economy, this hits the sweet spot. Metacritic's 78 reflects a solid sim that knows its niche.
