About Rust Console Edition - New Cobalt Employee Welcome Pack (DLC)
Let me be upfront: this is a cosmetic DLC pack for Rust Console Edition on Xbox, not a game, not an expansion, and definitely not a narrative experience I can dissect for branching choices. What you are getting is a bundle dressed up in corporate "new employee" framing - a bit of dry humor from Facepunch's direction - that includes 1500 Rust Coins, a Cobalt jacket, trousers, shoes, a furnace skin, a sleeping bag skin, and a rock skin. The rock skin. For the rock you start with. Someone in that studio has a sense of humor. Rust Console Edition itself is the Xbox port of the famously brutal open-world survival game where you spawn naked, get hit with that rock, and spend the next several hours either building a base or losing one. It is PvP-heavy, punishing, and deeply social in the way that only a game where strangers can raid your home at 3am can be. The Cobalt pack does nothing to change any of that gameplay - it is purely aesthetic, layering a blue-tinted visual identity onto gear you would otherwise be wearing or using anyway. Who is this for? Primarily players who are already committed to Rust Console Edition and want a coordinated look without grinding through in-game currency systems to get there. The 1500 Rust Coins have real value as in-game currency, which softens the purely-cosmetic nature of the bundle somewhat - those coins can go toward future items in the in-game store. The Cobalt theming is cohesive rather than random, which is a small thing but worth noting when so many cosmetic bundles throw unrelated skins together and call it a day. From my RPG-specialist corner, I will admit this sits well outside my usual territory. There are no dialogue trees here, no character builds, no narrative payoff. Rust is a systems-driven survival sandbox and this DLC is a wardrobe addition to that sandbox. The Metacritic score of 69 for the base game reflects a competent but uneven console port of a PC game that was already divisive. If you are enjoying the console version and want to look the part of a freshly-minted corporate survivor with matching furnace decor, this pack does exactly that job without overreaching.
