Three games, dozens of sandbox maps, one bald assassin, and more ways to kill a target than you can count. Just make sure you know what edition you're buying before checkout.

I've put a lot of hours into stealth games, and World of Assassination is the one I keep coming back to whenever a new one disappoints me. IO Interactive bundled all three entries of the modern Hitman trilogy - 2016's Paris debut through 2021's final chapter - into a single platform, and the result is one of the densest, most replayable collections in the genre. The core is simple on paper: you are Agent 47, a genetically engineered hitman working with handler Diana Burnwood to dismantle a shadowy organization called Providence. In practice, the "story" is really just a series of elaborate permission slips to visit extraordinary locations and figure out inventive ways to remove people from existence. What makes the whole thing click is the map design. A luxury Paris runway show, a crowded Mumbai slum, a remote Hokkaido hospital - each location is a clockwork puzzle box stuffed with NPCs on patrol routes, hidden corridors, overheard conversations, and environmental kill setups. You can poison a glass, disguise yourself as a chef and walk right up to your target, or engineer an "accidental" chandelier drop. Reach map mastery and you'll unlock loadout options - fiber wire, silenced pistols, remote explosives, emetic syringes - that open entirely new approaches on maps you've already cleared. The Silent Assassin challenge, which demands you leave no witnesses and take no detections, is where the game shifts from sandbox toy to genuine skill test. The headline addition in World of Assassination is Freelancer mode, a roguelike layer built on top of the existing maps. You run campaigns of four contracts back to back, with no manual saves and permanent gear loss on failure. A home safehouse lets you store weapons and tools between runs, but situational items like poisons and crowbars disappear if you don't extract cleanly. It is a brutally clever idea that forces veterans out of their comfort zones and gives newcomers a structured reason to revisit maps they thought they knew. That said, the mode inherits the base game's always-online requirement, which means a dropped connection can strand your progress mid-run. For a predominantly single-player experience, that still stings. The content structure is the other thing to sort out before you buy. The base package covers the main story missions across all three games plus Freelancer and the bonus Hitman 1 maps, but certain Hitman 2 DLC locations and some cosmetic content sit behind an additional Upgrade Pack. Elusive Targets - one-shot assassination contracts with no retries and a limited availability window - add genuine tension but also bring FOMO for players who miss the rotation. None of this is hidden exactly, but it takes a Reddit thread or two to fully understand what you're getting. Go in clear-eyed about the edition you choose and the frustration largely evaporates. For pure stealth and puzzle-sandbox depth, nothing else on PC comes close right now. The maps hold up years later, the Contracts mode keeps community-made challenges cycling indefinitely, and the active speedrunning scene signals just how much mechanical ceiling there is to chase. If you want to be guided by the hand or prefer linear action, look elsewhere. If you want a game that rewards you for paying attention and thinking two moves ahead, this is one of the most well-crafted offerings in its genre. Alex, Scout Team
