About Guardians of Middle-earth
Guardians of Middle-earth is a multiplayer online battle arena set in Tolkien's universe, developed by Monolith Productions back when MOBAs were the hot genre trend. You pick heroes from the books and movies, Gandalf, Aragorn, Sauron, and others, and fight 5v5 matches on a small roster of maps. It's League of Legends with an IP coat of paint: minions, towers, level progression, item builds, the whole formula. The main draw is obviously the IP itself. If you've ever wanted to play as Legolas or Gothmog, the novelty carries some weight. Problem: the game shut down on Steam years ago and the player base evaporated. Finding a match requires persistence. The mechanics are competent but nothing revolutionary for MOBA standards. It's a period piece now, a footnote in the graveyard of licensed online games that couldn't hold an audience. Worth checking out if you stumble on a working server and nostalgia hits hard, but don't expect thriving multiplayer.
