Sucker Punch's follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima refines almost every system its predecessor built and wraps it around a sharper revenge story. If you liked Tsushima, this is a fuller, more confident version of that same trip.

I went into Ghost of Yotei expecting comfortable familiarity, and that is almost exactly what I got - for better and, occasionally, for worse. Set in 1603 Ezo (present-day Hokkaido) at the dawn of the Edo period, roughly 300 years after Jin Sakai's legend, this is a standalone story about Atsu, a sellsword hunting down the Yotei Six, a gang of outlaws who murdered her family. The premise is straightforward revenge fiction, and critics are right that the story beats stay predictable. But the world Sucker Punch built around that story is hard to argue with. Combat is the standout. Atsu carries five distinct primary weapons - katana, dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama, and more - alongside arrows, kunai, fire bombs, and eventually a tanegashima rifle. The weapon-type system creates a light rock-paper-scissors dynamic where reading an enemy's loadout and swapping on the fly actually matters. Parry timing is tight and satisfying, particularly in one-on-one duels where the camera closes in and every clash feels deliberate. A wolf companion joins the fight and can be called in to destabilize grouped enemies, adding another tactical layer without overcomplicating things. Stealth remains viable throughout, and a new disarming mechanic applies to both Atsu and her enemies, which keeps high-difficulty encounters unpredictable. The open world follows the Tsushima blueprint with guiding winds, side factions including ronin, bandits, and rival samurai, and a bounty system that tests both exploration and combat skills. Sucker Punch leaned harder into player freedom here - the design actively encourages following curiosity rather than chasing objective markers. That said, some reviewers noted that enemy encounters can tip into quantity-over-quality territory in longer sessions, and the stealth AI occasionally misfires in densely populated outposts. Neither issue breaks the game, but they are noticeable friction points in an otherwise polished loop. The shamisen mechanic, where learning songs points you to hidden locations and lore, is a quiet highlight that adds texture to traversal. Visually, the snowcapped silhouette of Mount Yotei over the fields of Ezo is genuinely striking, and the art direction won recognition at The Game Awards 2025. The score supports every mood - duels, exploration, quieter character moments - without overselling any of them. The game shipped on PS5 in October 2025 and is coming to PC via Nixxes Software, with DLSS, FSR, and XeSS support expected, unlocked frame rates, and a minimum spec targeting 1080p60 on mid-range hardware around an RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600 XT. A New Game Plus mode and a free Legends multiplayer expansion have also launched post-release, adding replay value beyond the main campaign. Alex, Scout Team
