Perimeter + Perimeter: Emperor's Testament
A real-time strategy hybrid that trades traditional base-building for terrain deformation and unit morphing, then doubles down on the oddity with an expansion that barely anyone's heard of.
Veredicto de GamerScout
For strategy players willing to learn an unconventional system in exchange for something genuinely different from mainstream RTS fare.

Perimeter is a 2004 RTS that abandons the genre's conventions in favor of dynamic terrain manipulation and units that transform mid-battle. Instead of harvesting resources and queuing buildings, you reshape the landscape itself to create defensive perimeters, generate energy, and unlock new unit forms. It's visually distinct and mechanically ambitious, but the learning curve is steep and the interface feels dated even for its era. The core loop of terrain-juggling combat is genuinely novel, though, and if you're willing to spend time figuring out the systems, there's a solid strategy game underneath. The Emperor's Testament expansion adds more campaign missions and unit variants, but it doesn't fundamentally reshape the base game's rough edges. Both games are niche by design: they're for players who want something completely different from StarCraft or Company of Heroes, not a refinement of the same formula. The RTS audience has largely moved on, and Perimeter's complexity without accessibility hasn't aged well. Worth a shot if you're hunting for forgotten strategy gems, but don't expect it to click immediately.
