I went in expecting standard first-person horror. What I got was a deliberate, story-focused experience set around a classified Soviet experiment. Episode 2 leans hard into exploration and environmental storytelling; you'll spend as much time decoding journal entries and hunting for puzzle pieces as you will walking eerie corridors. The puzzle design is solid if sometimes obtuse, and the atmosphere genuinely unsettles without relying on cheap scares. The catch is pacing. This isn't a game that rushes you through jump-scares and setpieces. If you need constant action or hand-holding, the slow crawl through abandoned research stations will feel tedious. But if you're the type who got lost in Half-Life 2's storytelling or appreciated the methodical dread of something like The Forgotten City, Episode 2 respects your patience and rewards curiosity.
