A top-down zombie survival RPG set in a Louisiana bayou, built around crafting, base-building, and optional co-op for up to 16 players. Rough around the edges, but scratches a specific itch.

How to Survive 2 takes the top-down action-RPG survival formula from its predecessor and drops you into a swampy Louisiana setting overrun with the undead. You build and upgrade a base camp, craft weapons and gear, complete missions for survivor NPCs, and level up a character through a skill tree that nudges you toward a playstyle - whether that is a close-quarters brawler swinging improvised melee weapons or a ranged scavenger picking off zombies from a careful distance. The bayou setting gives the whole thing a distinct visual personality that at least separates it from the grey urban backdrops most zombie games default to. The survival loop is functional but rarely surprising. You gather resources, reinforce your camp, and push outward into increasingly dangerous zones. The crafting system has enough depth to feel rewarding early on - finding the right components to assemble a decent shotgun or a fortified chest piece gives a genuine dopamine hit. The skill tree is broad rather than deep, which means you can build a competent character without much friction, but build variety past the midgame does not hold up especially well. By hour 15 or so most builds start converging toward the same reliable weapon types, and the sense of meaningful character differentiation fades. Where the game shows its clearest value is in co-op. LAN supports up to three companions, and the online multiplayer lobby pushes that to 16 players total. Coordinating base defense and scavenging runs with even two or three friends adds a layer of chaos and communication that the solo experience cannot replicate. That said, the co-op infrastructure is aging - expect some technical friction matching sessions, and the 2016-era netcode will remind you this is not a live-service title with ongoing polish. The mission writing is purely functional: go here, kill these, bring back that. If you are hoping for narrative payoff or choices that matter in any meaningful way, this is not the game that delivers those things. The story is a thin wrapper, not a real draw. The Mixed Steam rating (around 69 percent positive across nearly 11,000 reviews) reflects a game that does some things adequately but never breaks through to genuinely good. Performance on PC can be inconsistent, and the interface has a clunky quality that suggests the development budget was stretched. Eko Software built a serviceable zombie survival RPG, not a memorable one. It scratches the itch for fans of the genre who have exhausted stronger options, but the writing rewards zero re-reads, the filler quests are plentiful, and the character arcs are essentially nonexistent - which, as your RPG correspondent, I do feel obligated to flag. If you have a small group of friends who enjoy low-stakes survival co-op and can tolerate a rough UI, there is an evening or two of genuine fun buried here. Solo players chasing depth should look elsewhere. Monika, Scout Team

Veredicto de GamerScout

Best for small co-op groups who want a low-pressure zombie survival loop and can forgive dated netcode and thin writing.
