I logged into Beyond Light expecting the campaign Bungie promised. What I got was a three-hour story on Europa, then a season pass paywall blocking half the narrative, the exotic weapon quest, and the seasonal activity itself. The Stasis subclass is genuinely fun, freezing adds tactical depth PvE and PvP, and the Deep Stone Crypt raid is solid. But the expansion model here is aggressive. You pay for Beyond Light, then pay again for the season, and the meaningful story beats live in the season pass track, not the expansion. Europa itself is pretty and dense with lost sectors, but the seasonal model was Bungie's messiest moment post-Shadowkeep. If you're a Destiny vet, you already know whether you're paying. If you're new, know this: the free base game teaches you nothing about the economy. The expansion gives you access to endgame, but the real content lives in the battle pass. It's not predatory in the way Anthem was, but it's transparent in its design to keep you on the treadmill.
