The most-requested killer in DbD history finally arrived for the 10th anniversary, and his stealth-ambush kit is genuinely different enough to matter. Worth the chapter price if you play either side seriously.

I've spent enough hours in Dead by Daylight trials to know when a new killer is reskin padding and when one actually reshapes how a lobby plays out. Jason Voorhees, added as Chapter 40 for the game's 10th anniversary, lands firmly in the second category. The wait was long, the licensing situation was messy for years, and the expectations were sky-high. He mostly clears the bar. As the Slasher, Jason runs two core mechanics that work together in a way most DbD killers don't manage. Omnipresent Evil lets him go fully invisible, strip his terror radius, and boost his movement speed across the map. The catch is he can't clearly see survivors during the phase - only Mist Clouds over still targets and Footprints over moving ones, meaning crouch-walkers go completely dark. It rewards map knowledge and prediction over raw reaction speed, which is a different ask than most killer powers. His second tool, Throwing Spikes, are grabbed from junk piles or off killer hooks and hurled as projectiles that injure healthy survivors, down injured ones, or pin them to walls. The spike aiming is more forgiving than Deathslinger's chain but demands deliberate positioning - you're not spamming these, you're setting them up after forcing predictable paths with Omnipresent Evil. His three signature perks - Silent Shadow, Hex: Scared to Death, and Rampage - are built around the same ambush identity. Silent Shadow grants Undetectable for 13 seconds after each hook, turning post-hook repositioning into a genuine threat window rather than a dead zone. Hex: Scared to Death punishes survivors who loop into pallet breaks with a scream and a Hindered debuff. Rampage stacks tokens from broken pallets and walls to flip stuns and blinds into a Haste buff, which directly addresses the kit's biggest weakness: Jason's base movement speed is slow. Not Trapper slow, but noticeably punishing if survivors are disciplined loopers who pre-drop and run. Cross-play is active across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, so lobby times stay healthy and the survivor pool is wide. What doesn't fully land is the learning curve on Omnipresent Evil's exit timing. Jump Scare, the reappearance burst, needs to hit at pallets, vaults, or breakable walls to matter - exiting in open space wastes it. New players and returning ones (and the launch traffic was enormous, hitting a new all-time Steam peak) will spend several hours just getting that timing right before the kit clicks. Survivor-side, the chapter added no new map, which is either a relief or a disappointment depending on how you feel about the current pool. The asymmetric depth is all there. The spectacle is there. The gap between a competent Jason and a fumbling one is just wider than average for DbD killers, which will frustrate anyone expecting a straightforward power-forward killer like Wesker or Nemesis. Best for DbD players willing to invest time into Omnipresent Evil's timing - Jason rewards the patient and punishes autopilot.
