Baldur's Gate 3
97% positive across 844k Steam reviews, a Metacritic 96, and it still somehow undersells itself. If you have any affection for D&D or narrative RPGs, clear your calendar.
Veredicto de GamerScout
The deepest narrative CRPG in years, built for players who read every tooltip and lose sleep over companion arcs.

I have finished this game twice, started four additional runs that dissolved into obsessive side-quest spirals, and I am already planning a Dark Urge playthrough that I have been putting off because I know what it will do to my sleep schedule. Baldur's Gate 3 is a turn-based, party-based RPG built on a faithful adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition rules, and it is probably the most complete argument the CRPG genre has ever made for its own existence. Character creation lets you pick from a wide roster of classes and subclasses, Barbarian through Wizard, with multiclassing available for anyone who wants to get creative well past the midgame. The D&D 5e ruleset means your class and background choices echo through every conversation, not just combat. Play a Bard and you get unique dialogue options to talk your way past confrontations. Roll a Warlock and your Eldritch Blast can be modified to knock enemies off ledges rather than just damage them. The passive skill-check system is always running quietly in the background, with the game rolling perception checks against hidden traps, buried loot, and potential ambushes without pausing play. When you do get into dialogue, dice come out for Persuasion and Deception checks, and the tension of watching that roll is genuinely cinematic in a way few games manage. Combat encounters are meticulously designed with distinct enemy behaviors. Phase spiders teleport above you to spray poison from range. Gnolls spawn from dying hyenas in ways that feel genuinely horrifying mid-fight. The game rarely tells you no, and it scales into gloriously absurd territory: polymorphing a boss into a goat and having Karlach punt him into a chasm is a real, valid solution. The level cap sits lower than in some genre peers, but build variety remains robust past the 40-hour mark, especially once multiclassing and respeccing enter the picture. Act 2 shifts into near-horror territory, Act 3 drops you into the dense city of Baldur's Gate itself for political intrigue and criminal turf wars, and the companion arcs, particularly Karlach and Astarion, reach emotional payoffs that rival some of the best writing the genre has produced. Fair warnings exist for the less-initiated. The sheer volume of the game can produce anxiety rather than wonder, especially for players conditioned to completionism. You will miss content. Entire questlines will collapse or fork depending on decisions you made 20 hours prior, and the game will not always flag that a door has closed. Act 3 has historically drawn criticism for feeling denser and less polished than Acts 1 and 2, and some players find the freedom of the system paradoxically paralysing. There is no filler grinding in the traditional sense, but there is so much of everything else that pacing sometimes becomes your own problem to manage. Co-op is available for up to four players online and works surprisingly well, though shared party control in multiplayer requires coordination that can fracture less organised groups. For RPG fans who have ever wanted a video game to approximate what a genuinely responsive Dungeon Master feels like, this is as close as the medium has come. It is not a game for players who want a tight 15-hour narrative. It is a game for people who read dialogue box tooltips, who will reload a save to try the Intimidation option, and who will then stay up until 2am processing the emotional fallout of a companion's story ending. That is my kind of game.
