I spent a few hours with A New World: Kingdoms expecting a Civilization-lite experience, and that's mostly what I got, turn-based empire building with resource management, building placement, and rival kingdoms to outmaneuver. The interface is clean, the tutorial doesn't waste your time, and the core loop of expand-manage-defend works for what it is. The problem is the game runs out of ideas fast. AI opponents are predictable, tech progression feels thin, and by mid-game you're just watching yourself win rather than making meaningful decisions. If you want a low-stakes strategy game to play while listening to podcasts, there's value here. But if you're chasing the depth of a real 4X, the kind where diplomacy matters, where unit composition drives warfare, where asymmetric starts create compelling narratives, you'll run into walls quickly. It's honest work from a small studio, but it doesn't justify much time investment against the free and paid alternatives already out there.
