Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Winter Assault

Winter Assault is the first expansion to Dawn of War, and it's a deliberate shift in pace. Instead of the original's three-way chaos, you get the Necrons and the Imperial Guard joining the Orks and Eldar, with new unit rosters and faction mechanics that lean harder into attrition and positioning. The winter map theme isn't just cosmetic, resource scarcity and terrain matter more here, which means you can't just spam units and hope. If you want the meat of 40K RTS without the frantic early-game all-ins of the base game, Winter Assault delivers. It's slower, more deliberate, and rewards players who actually think about army composition. The downside is no integrated multiplayer matchmaking by modern standards, so finding opponents requires old-school community forums. Still solid if you can find an opponent.
