Vicewave 1984

Vicewave 1984 commits fully to the synthwave visual identity - neon grids, VHS tape distortion, and a color palette that screams arcade cabinet. The core loop is simple enough: shoot things, dodge patterns, maybe collect power-ups. It's competent arcade action, the kind of thing that would have felt right at home in an 80s arcade if the mechanics had more bite to them. The problem is that after the novelty of the aesthetic wears off, there's not much game left underneath. The controls feel responsive, and the difficulty ramps up predictably, but Vicewave doesn't do anything that countless other retro-inspired shooters haven't already done better. If you're specifically hunting for a short, vibe-heavy arcade experience and neon nostalgia is enough to carry you through a couple of playthroughs, this scratches that itch. Anyone else should look elsewhere.
