About Unreal 2: The Awakening
I went in expecting a spiritual successor to the 1998 original, and Unreal 2 does nail the big-dumb-action-game energy: weapon variety is solid, level design has some memorable set pieces, and the gunplay holds up better than you'd think for a 20-year-old shooter. But the story is aggressively forgettable, the voice acting ranges from wooden to cringe, and the pacing drags whenever the game tries to be serious instead of just letting you shoot things. If you're chasing early-2000s FPS nostalgia and don't mind dated presentation, there's a playable game here. Everyone else should probably look elsewhere.
