Doug McGrave is a jerk protagonist stuck in a curse that forces constant replay, which means the game leans hard into speedrunning appeal and roguelike progression. Each run feels distinct because weapon drops dramatically change how you approach combat, rewarding players who adapt on the fly rather than memorizing patterns. The speedrunning DNA shows in tight controls and snappy feedback, but this isn't a polished AAA package. Rough edges abound in presentation and the early game can feel grindy before weapon variety opens up. The rogue sauce is there, but this is fundamentally a arcade-style action game that respects your time and doesn't overstay its welcome per run.
