About Shadowrun: Returns & Dragonfall
I spent dozens of hours in both Shadowrun: Returns and Dragonfall, and they hold up as thoughtful tactical RPGs for anyone tired of real-time action spam. You lead a squad of shadowrunners through turn-based missions where cover, ability synergy, and loadout planning matter far more than twitch reflexes. Returns is the tighter, more focused campaign; Dragonfall expands the formula with better companion writing, class variety, and a richer Berlin setting. Both games let you build wildly different runners, hacker, shaman, street samurai, mage, and the missions force you to think laterally about how to use them. The downside: these are indie-budget productions from 2013-2014, so don't expect AAA cinematic polish. Visuals are dated, some UI quirks bite, and the story in Returns feels lean compared to Dragonfall's darker, more character-driven narrative. But if you want crisp turn-based tactics without bloat, solid writing that respects the Shadowrun lore, and actual build diversity that changes how missions play, both games deliver. Dragonfall especially is worth your time.
