About Saints Row Idols Anarchy Pack (DLC)
I'll be straight with you: reviewing a three-item cosmetic DLC for a game that Metacritic labelled 'mixed or average' and whose launch bugs had the Washington Post calling it barely playable is not exactly the highlight of my week. But people are still buying into Saints Row (2022) now that it's on Steam, so let's talk about what the Idols Anarchy Pack actually is and whether it earns a spot in your cart. The pack drops three items rooted in the Idols faction aesthetic - the anarcho-rave gang that runs neon-drenched nightlife across Santo Ileso. First up is the DJ Helmet, a digitized face-covering that fits right into the Idols' Egyptian raver visual identity, all sharp shapes, pink-and-blue palette, and animated faceplate energy. Second is the Twinkle Bat, which is technically a weapon skin for the Smelterville Slugger baseball bat rather than a standalone weapon - you still need to buy the base bat at a Friendly Fire shop for a modest in-game fee before you can apply it. Third is the Sandstorm Scrambler, a neon-lit motorcycle that drops into your garage once you progress through the main story quest 'A Piece of the Action' and unlock Jim Rob's Garage. None of this unlocks instantly at the main menu; each item is gated behind small in-game steps, which is worth knowing ahead of time. The value question is uncomfortable. This pack was originally the free pre-order bonus bundled with every standard edition of Saints Row at launch. If you pre-ordered back in 2022, you already have it. If you're buying it now as a separate purchase, you're paying real money for a helmet skin, a bat reskin, and a bike that the game's character customization system can probably approximate through its already generous visual mod tools. The Idols faction has a genuinely cool look - their whole cult-rave-anarchist identity with digital faceplates and pink-and-gold gear is one of the more visually interesting things in the game - and the DJ Helmet does carry that energy. But 'cool faction aesthetic' and 'worth buying separately' are two different arguments. If you are already committed to Saints Row (2022), enjoy leaning into faction cosplay during online co-op sessions with a friend, and specifically want to dress your Boss in full Idols kit, this pack at least delivers thematically consistent gear. The bike is probably the most practical item since vehicles matter in open-world traversal. The bat skin is the weakest of the three purely because it requires a setup step most players won't expect. For anyone on the fence about Saints Row itself, sort that question out first - this DLC is only as good as the number of hours you plan to spend in Santo Ileso. Riley, Scout Team
