GamerScout Verdict
Best for horror fans who want survival-horror atmosphere over action thrills; risky for purists nostalgic for the original's camp.

About Resident Evil 4 Remake
I went in expecting Capcom to just prettify the original, but this remake swings harder toward atmospheric dread than the game it's based on. Leon's campaign trades the B-movie humor and over-the-top boss encounters for a grittier tone, tighter gunplay, and resource scarcity that feels earned rather than forced. The village and castle environments are gorgeous and claustrophobic in equal measure, and the puzzle-solving actually requires you to think instead of just following waypoints. The catch: that tonal shift alienates some of what made the 2005 version iconic. Fans expecting the mid-game insanity and OG charm will feel the loss. The pacing drags in places, and a few boss redesigns sacrifice fun for difficulty. It's a competent remake that respects survival-horror conventions, but it doesn't quite justify why a 20-year-old game needed this particular overhaul.
