I went in expecting a faithful modernization, and that's mostly what Resident Evil 2 Remake delivers. It's a third-person shooter-horror hybrid built on the bones of the 1998 game but with modern controls and graphics that actually let you see the hallways. You play as Leon or Claire through Raccoon City's police station and beyond, solving environmental puzzles while rationing ammo and healing items. The dual-character campaign is the hook here: pick wrong and you'll miss entire story beats and puzzle solutions. The remake stumbles when it tries to be scarier than scary. Some encounters feel padded, and the pacing occasionally drags between set pieces. But if you want old-school survival horror without the tank controls, this is the straightforward entry point. Not a reinvention, just a competent remake that respects the source material.
