I'll be upfront: golf sims are not exactly where I spend my Saturday nights, but PGA TOUR 2K25 pulled me in further than I expected, and not just because Tiger Woods is on the cover. The headline addition this year is EvoSwing, a revamped club-swinging system that tracks four distinct elements on every shot: contact, rhythm, transition, and swing path. Each is measured independently, meaning a slightly rushed downswing can bleed accuracy even if your contact was clean. It sounds fiddly on paper, but in practice it gives the ball-striking a tactile weight the series was missing before. For players who want something more relaxed, the Perfect Swing difficulty setting hands you a generous auto-assist system that smooths over timing errors and keeps club selection approachable. The catch is that ranked competitive modes online default to Pro-Am difficulty or higher, so anyone who leans on Perfect Swing through the entirety of MyCAREER will run into a rude shock the first time they queue into a Ranked Tours event. The difficulty curve between solo and online play is a real gap, and the game does not do enough to warn you about it. MyCAREER is where the Pro Edition earns most of its keep. Five player archetypes, Powerhouse, Technician, Magician, Greenskeeper, and Sculptor, give you distinct starting attributes and feed into a skill tree split across Tee, Approach, Recovery, Bunker, and Green shot categories. Earning attribute points and climbing the Overall Rating feels meaningful for the first twenty or so hours. The big new addition for the career is access to three major championships: the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, the U.S. Open at Oakmont, and The Open at Royal Portrush. These are franchise firsts, and playing them inside MyCAREER gives the mode a genuine sense of stakes it lacked before. Dynamic Rounds, which let you play condensed tournament formats, stop the pacing from dragging through full 72-hole slogs. What MyCAREER does not have is strong writing or meaningful rival characterisation; the in-fiction drama around the eleven playable pros, including Tiger Woods, Matt Fitzpatrick, and a Happy Gilmore cameo that is exactly what it sounds like, stays shallow. If narrative payoff is your benchmark for a career mode, this one will underwhelm. The Course Designer returns and is legitimately impressive for people willing to invest real time into it. Custom courses can be shared globally, and community creations extend the game's lifespan well past what the 27 licensed venues at launch can provide. Ranked Tours adds daily and weekly events tied to the real PGA schedule, and cross-platform Societies let you run league-style competition with friends regardless of platform. On the negative side of the ledger: commentary is widely criticised as flat and repetitive, the menu transition screens pile up between every action, the Clubhouse Pass system and in-game VC currency generate constant monetisation prompts, and Augusta National is still absent, keeping this title in EA Sports PGA Tour's shadow for course prestige. The Pro Edition bundles the base game with cosmetic packs (Extra Butter x adidas gear, Titleist equipment cosmetics) and the Pro Accelerator Pack with VC and level-up tokens, which is useful for skipping early grind but does nothing to solve the structural pacing issues. If you play golf sims for the shot-by-shot craft and can tolerate 2K's in-game shop ecosystem, this is the best the series has been. If you need a career mode with narrative teeth, or you refuse to see another pop-up trying to sell you a driver skin, budget your patience accordingly.
