About Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty
I spent enough time with Patrician IV to see what drew players to it back then: a functioning economy where you buy low, sell high, manage trade routes across medieval Europe, and gradually accumulate wealth and political influence. The cooperative multiplayer is the headline feature here, letting up to three friends run competing businesses in the same world. Problem is, the interface aged like milk. Tooltips are sparse, keyboard shortcuts aren't intuitive, and the tutorial assumes you've played the original Patrician. The real issue isn't complexity, it's that complexity without payoff. You can hoard goods, undercut competitors, and watch the AI shrug. There's depth in the accounting, sure, but not enough tension. If you want a medieval trading game that actually makes you sweat the margins, start elsewhere. This is for series loyalists and patient spreadsheet lovers only.
