NHL® 25 (Xbox Series X|S)

NHL 25 is the latest entry in EA's annual hockey franchise, and if you've played one in the last five years, you know exactly what you're getting: updated rosters, incremental gameplay tweaks, and the same modes (Hockey Ultimate Team, Be a Pro career, online multiplayer). The question isn't what NHL 25 does differently, it's whether you need this year's version at all. If you're a franchise-mode devotee who wants accurate player stats and team compositions, the roster update alone might justify it. If you're deep into HUT's card-collecting economy, you're probably already committed. But if you're a casual player or someone new to hockey games, last year's version plays nearly identically and costs a fraction of the price. The core gameplay remains solid: it's accessible to newcomers but has enough depth for online competition. What you won't find is innovation. This is maintenance-release territory, the kind of game that exists because the NHL license demands an annual refresh and the player base expects current rosters. That's not inherently bad, just honest.
