IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz Edition

I spent enough hours in Cliffs of Dover to appreciate what 1C Maddox was attempting: a study in asymmetric air combat where the Spitfire and Hurricane don't magically out-turn everything. The damage model is unforgiving - a single burst from a Bf 109's cannons can leave your wing trailing smoke, forcing real management decisions about RTB or pushing for one more pass. The flight physics respect energy states and angle-of-attack in ways arcade sims sidestep entirely. The friction here is real, though. The tutorial assumes aeronautical knowledge most players lack, and performance netcode made the multiplayer community smaller than it deserved. By 2011 standards, the graphics were acceptable; now they're dated. But if you're chasing the feeling of flying a warbird that bites back, and you're willing to burn an evening reading the manual, the Blitz edition remains a no-compromise option. Just accept that the learning curve punishes button-mashers.
