You need a joystick, you need to learn fuel management and engine damage mechanics, and the tutorial won't hold your hand through carrier landings or flak avoidance. The core draw is fidelity: historically accurate aircraft from June 1944, single-player missions with real weight to them, and multiplayer modes (including co-op) where your decisions actually matter because your wingmates are real players. What works is the mission structure and aircraft roster. Each warbird handles distinctly, and the damage model means a damaged engine isn't just a damage number - it's a resource management problem you have to solve mid-flight. Multiplayer gets messy lag-wise on larger servers, and the community is tiny, so finding an active co-op squad takes hunting.
