I went in expecting standard tower defense. Hydraulic Empire mixes that foundation with RPG-style upgrades and what sounds like meaningful mob-on-mob interactions that actually change how you approach each wave. The persistent progression angle means you're not starting from scratch each run, which gives you reasons to replay and experiment with build combinations. Strategy games live or die on whether their systems reward planning, and the tower placement combined with mob synergies suggests there's real depth here if you're willing to read tooltips and think ahead. The rough part: this is a small, under-the-radar title with minimal visibility, so community guides are sparse and the UI might feel clunky compared to polished competitors. That said, if you're tired of mainstream tower defense and want something that respects your intelligence without requiring a PhD in spreadsheet management, this scratches that itch.
