Compare Eventide: Slavic Fable prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by The House of Fables. Published by Artifex Mundi. Released on 1/28/2016. Available on PC. Genres: Adventure, Casual.

Slavic mythology rarely gets this kind of treatment in casual games, and Eventide delivers it in a relaxed two-to-three-hour sitting that never punishes you for not being a genre veteran.

I went into Eventide: Slavic Fable expecting the usual Artifex Mundi formula and got exactly that, but wrapped in a setting unusual enough to make the whole thing feel fresh. You play as Mary, a botanist who arrives at a heritage park themed around Slavic legends only to find her grandmother kidnapped by Boruta, a villain drawing on the park's ancient magic. It is a thin premise, but the world built around it is genuinely interesting. Creatures pulled from Slavic folklore populate the park, and forging uneasy alliances with them is more engaging than the main story arc on its own ever manages to be. The game sits squarely in the hidden object puzzle adventure (HOPA) genre. Across 38 hand-painted locations you cycle through fragmented-object scenes, inventory puzzles that ask you to combine items to unlock the next area, and standalone logic puzzles that can be skipped if they stall you out. The hint button and fast-travel map keep frustration low, and three difficulty modes, Casual, Advanced, and Expert, add a little range. On Expert, active zones lose their telltale sparkle, which creates a meaningfully different experience if you want one. Total runtime is short, around two hours if you move with purpose, which is the main complaint you will hear from genre regulars. The pacing inside that window is good, though. Backtracking is lighter than in comparable titles, and the puzzles stay varied enough that the game never feels like it is just filling time. Where Eventide earns its 93% Steam rating is presentation. The hand-drawn locations are richly coloured and themed consistently around the Slavic setting, so items and puzzles feel like they belong to the world rather than being dropped in at random. Collectible Bestiary Cards flesh out the mythology of each creature you encounter and can be read from the main menu, a small detail that goes a long way toward making the lore feel considered rather than decorative. The voice acting is serviceable at best and the dialogue has some rough patches, while the soundtrack is pleasant but forgettable. None of that derails the experience because, in this genre, atmosphere and visual craft carry most of the weight, and Eventide delivers on both. The honest caveat is that this game offers nothing that will surprise a HOPA veteran. The story is safe, the challenge ceiling is low, and anyone hoping for the investigative depth of something like the Enigmatis series will come away a little flat. What it does for newcomers, or for anyone wanting an easy-going hour or two with an unusual cultural backdrop, is harder to dismiss. The Slavic mythology angle gives it a distinct identity in a crowded genre, and the collectibles give achievement hunters a clean, low-stress completion run. Alex, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
