I picked up Dredge expecting a cozy fishing sim and got psychological horror instead. You're piloting a trawler through fog-shrouded archipelagos, hauling up catch that defies biology, and listening to increasingly unsettling townsfolk. The real hook is how it layers dread through exploration and resource management: you manage fuel, sanity, and the ship's condition while deciding which islands to visit and which secrets to chase. The pixel-art aesthetic does heavy lifting here, making grotesque fish feel intimate and claustrophobic. What works: the writing nails cosmic unease without relying on jump scares, and the bite-sized 4-6 hour runtime respects your time. What doesn't: the narrative is deliberately vague (some find it atmospheric, others find it thin), and gameplay loop repetition sets in by hour three. If you love Disco Elysium's slow-burn worldbuilding and weird fiction vibes, Dredge scratches that itch. If you need combat or mechanical depth, look elsewhere.
