I went looking for something to compare Cyberpunk SFX to - a spectacle fighter, an arena shooter, a stealth action game with AI-driven opponents - and found a title that seems genuinely unsure which of those it wants to be. Released into Early Access in November 2020 by Kiev-based Whale Rock Games, this third-person sci-fi action-adventure casts you as a rocket-wielding synthetic lifeform navigating a near-future society that has outlawed artificial intelligence, labelling AI systems as dangerous "Genies" to be hunted and destroyed. The premise has real bones: AI persecution, civil disobedience, the cost of progress. The execution is where things get complicated. On the surface the genre cocktail looks appealing - stealth segments, third-person shooting, character action combat, cinematic noir atmosphere all appear in the tag list. The Unreal Engine 4 foundation gives it visual coherence, and there are flickers of genuine style in the cyberpunk aesthetic. But community discussion consistently points to unpolished mechanics, sparse content, and a development pace that has averaged roughly one meaningful update per year. The Steam community board has threads asking how many skills the protagonist will have at full release, with no firm answer. That kind of open-ended uncertainty is exactly what responsible Early Access purchasing requires you to price in before clicking anything. From a depth-of-systems standpoint - which is where I spend most of my time evaluating whether a game is worth your hours - Cyberpunk SFX is thin. There is no visible build variety, no upgrade tree with meaningful branching, and no indication of how the stealth and shooter modes interact mechanically at a design level. The AI quality of enemies cannot be fairly assessed without a stable, content-complete build, and the solo-only structure means there is no co-op or multiplayer layer to compensate for thin single-player longevity. Achievements and cloud saves are present, which is fine, but those are baseline features rather than reasons to buy. The review score situation deserves a direct mention. The Steam page shows a positive aggregate, but independent observers across gaming communities have raised credible concerns about the composition of those reviews, noting patterns inconsistent with organic player feedback. I cannot verify this independently, but the discrepancy between the score and the volume of critical community commentary is a flag worth acknowledging. A game asking for your trust during Early Access needs its reputation to be unambiguous. If you have a genuine appetite for scrappy, story-driven cyberpunk action from a small indie team and you understand that the product you are buying today may never reach the version described in developer ambition statements, there is a sliver of curiosity value here - especially at its heavily discounted sub-five-dollar price tier. But for most players, the combination of stalled development, thin mechanics, and unanswered content questions makes this a wait-and-see situation with no clear timeline for resolution.
