You're getting the original SaGa trilogy (the Game Boy "Final Fantasy Legend" games in the West), which means turn-based combat with a focus on weapon proficiency, monster recruiting, and character improvisation rather than traditional leveling. The mechanics feel archaic by today's standards, no quest markers, minimal story handholding, stat growth tied to what you use rather than experience points, but that's partly why they hold up. Each run feels different because you're not locked into a predetermined class path. The catch: these are old games with old problems. UI is sparse, tutorials don't exist, and the difficulty spikes are genuine. The collection doesn't add modern conveniences like suspend-anywhere saves or quality-of-life adjustments. You're essentially paying for convenience of owning all three on PC rather than hunting down cartridges or emulating yourself. If you're a tactics or roguelike enthusiast curious about the lineage, or a completionist JRPG fan who skipped the Game Boy era, it's worth a shot. Everyone else will probably bounce within an hour.
