BANZAI PECAN: The Last Hope For the Young Century

I went in expecting a straightforward arcade-style fighter, and that's what I got: a side-scrolling brawler with a "BANZAI SHINKEN" mechanic that's supposed to be your ticket to dishing out justice. The pixel art and old-school energy are genuine, and there's something charming about a game that doesn't apologize for being deliberately retro. Problem is, the execution feels unpolished. Hit feedback is mushy, the difficulty curve seems random, and the core combat loop gets repetitive fast without enough enemy variety or strategic depth to keep you thinking beyond button-mashing. This is a niche game for niche players, specifically, people who collect obscure indie brawlers and can overlook technical roughness for authenticity. If you're after something with tight controls and balanced design, keep walking. But if you're the type who respects a small team's swing at old-school arcade feel, even when it partially whiffs, there's a kernel of earnest charm here worth sampling.
