Aveyond: Lord of Twilight is a retro-styled fantasy RPG built for players who miss the simplicity of early Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger. You'll recruit a party, grind through turn-based encounters, and work through a fairly linear story with a few optional side quests sprinkled in. The pixel art is genuinely appealing, and there's a real sense of personality in the world-building that justifies the low-fi aesthetic. The catch is that it plays like it was made in 1995. Random encounters are frequent, stat systems are opaque, and leveling up feels glacial if you're not committed to the grind. It's not broken, but it's also not trying to iterate on or improve the formula, just replicate it. If you're genuinely nostalgic for that era and patient with slow-burn progression, there's a solid game here. Everyone else should probably pass.
