Aveyond 3-2: Gates of Night

Aveyond 3-2 is a top-down fantasy RPG that feels like it stepped out of the early 2000s, and that's partly the appeal. You're building a party, grinding through turn-based combat, and following a narrative about magic, curses, and world-ending stakes. The pixel art is functional rather than pretty, but the writing carries weight, and there's enough party variety and side content to justify the time investment if you're comfortable with slow-burn storytelling and minimal hand-holding. The catch: this is indie done lean. You won't find AAA production values, voice acting, or a tutorial that holds your hand through mechanics. If you've played older RPGs like the original Final Fantasy games or the Aveyond series before this one, you know what you're signing up for. For everyone else, it's a gamble on whether charm and substance can outweigh dated presentation. Worth a shot if turn-based RPGs and lore-heavy narratives are your bread and butter.
