A melancholic 30-minute memory piece for players who value mood and story over interaction.

About After Life - Story of a Father
I went in expecting a game and found a ghost story instead. After Life is less adventure, more visual novel: you're Rick, recently dead, drifting through fragmented scenes of your wife and daughter's lives. There's almost no puzzle-solving or choice-making in the traditional sense. What exists is mood, quiet, melancholic, sometimes unsettling, and the slow realization of what happened to you. The narrative unfolds in about 30 minutes of contemplative clicking through memories. It works if you accept what it is: a short, personal story that prioritizes emotion over agency. The hand-drawn art and ambient sound sell the premise. It doesn't work if you want branching paths, meaningful decisions, or mechanical challenge. This is a one-direction rail with a decent emotional payoff at the end. Best suited for players who enjoyed walking simulators like What Remains of Edith Finch or Firewatch and don't mind a game that's closer to a short film.
