About A Stroke of Fate: Operation Valkyrie
I went in expecting a standard point-and-click adventure wrapped around a real historical event, and that's essentially what you get here. You play Gerhard Mayer, a Wehrmacht officer caught between duty and conscience as the Gestapo closes in on the Valkyrie conspirators. The game leans hard into period detail and dialogue-heavy storytelling, which works when you care about the characters but drags when you're just moving between rooms looking for the next conversation trigger. The pacing suffers from typical early-2010s adventure game bloat: lots of pixel-hunting, inventory puzzles that feel arbitrary, and dialogue that doesn't always match the historical stakes. If you're a WW2 history buff or adventure game completionist, the novelty of a serious Valkyrie adaptation might carry you through. Everyone else will find better uses for their time.
