Buy the base game for free, learn the consumable timing and commander skill trees, then evaluate whether a premium ship purchase makes sense for how much you actually play. If you are already invested and the Iwaki Typhoon sits at a tier where you need a trainer ship or want a credit-farming hull, the DLC serves a functional purpose.
